'FLIGHT DREAMS' SERIES

artist's statement

'Flight Dreams' is an account of my subconscious exploration of faith and transition. Influenced by the visual cues of Aboriginal dreams paintings, aviator maps, views from airplane windows and my own flight dreams over many years, this collection of paintings follows these adventures and records them like a journal. These flights could never be summoned, I remember, but would come by their own accord only at a point when a shift was coming. There were years when I could see this autobiographical map beneath me as a guide on my journey and when it was no longer visually accessible, as in the piece titled, ‘Flight 103: White Out Conditions’, I was challenged to trust that it was still there.

With a very tangible sense of mysticism, taught to me by my parents through our Haïtian storytelling and years of discussion on ‘the mission of the spirit’, I grew up with the notion that Life is lived on multiple dimensions and that certain dreams are keys to the wisdom of the inner/third eye. In this way, the reality of wings is no more astonishing to me than awakening to a new day.
