statement
I consider myself more of an urban artist who happens to have a Caribbean background, specifically Dominican.
With this series, I wanted to use invented portraits and make the pictures look "old", or "antique". I currently
have over 370 "paintings" stored on my phone, the number below the images indicate the file name and title of each
piece. While painting, I'm constantly listening to Latin music (mainly old-school salsa and cuban), of course until
my battery runs out.
about the artist
Born in Washington Heights, New York City, Copie received his BFA from Pratt Institute. His works has appeared in numerous magazines, books, and has been exhibited in museums and galleries. Copie works primarily in mixed media, which includes; acrylic, spray paint, colored pencil, oils, ink, and collage.
The pieces for this show are digital "paintings" printed and adhered onto gessoed masonite, then touched up
with acrylic, pen, color pencils, etc.
