artist's statement
These works are direct conversations with mortality and are composed of experiences, inspirations and objects found during brief travels at home and abroad and consider the artifacts that we leave behind by invoking the mechanics of Life: the hinge that closes the shutter;the joint that bends the knee; the key that unlocks the musical note... the varied pieces that make us up, the things we leave behind for the descendents to gather and the symbols (emerging as masks, totems and pathways / land masses) we use to express the collective human experience.
Each piece of art bears its interpretation of the whole, while the bones are walking - one knob at a time, one button, one moment...
some thoughts, lessons and observations along the way...
Humanity's great teachers, prophets, saints, gods... all remind us of the impermanence of Life and even to consider all that we know as one solitary moment, a dream for our journey's benefit while temporarily wrapped in skin and bones.
However, our collective ego's attachment to past and future clouds this understanding and desires cause us to suffer the imagined lack of this piece or that speck.
The energy, the vibration, the light that make up all that we know, (and "all that we know" accounts for only 5% of the Universe or Multiverse; the rest is known as "dark matter" and is totally invisible to us) is what's really happening while the world of form, with all its beauty and ugliness, is filled with only interpretations of that energy, vibration and light.
What's REALLY going on? None of us knows for sure. We can only piece together whatever resources we have available to us to express our version of it this time around.
